Flight Training

So you're ready to start work towards getting your pilot's license? Great! Club approved flight instructor-members are available to help get you from layperson to pilot on a schedule that suits you. Club members are available to help you with every step of the process.

If you're considering becoming a pilot, joining the club is one of the best decisions you can make.

For more information about flight instruction, please fill out the form below and send a request.

Current club members: You can contact a club approved flight instructor directly here

Before you continue, you should know: Club policies prohibit flight instruction and intro/discovery flights to non-members

Only club members may operate or receive instruction in a Brookings Flying Club aircraft. You may not fly our aircraft until you join the club. We are unable to offer exceptions to this policy for any reason.
As a non-member, never give money to an instructor/pilot for a discovery flight / flight lesson / intro flight in a BFC aircraft. Only members may operate our aircraft, or receive flight instruction in our aircraft.
As a member, only pay club instructors for their time - not the aircraft. You will be invoiced directly by the Club for your aircraft usage.

That being said, we'd still love to hear from you - even before you join - and talk about your aviation goals, and maybe meet you up at the airport and show you our airplane! Please fill out the form below, and one of our approved instructor-members will get back to you shortly.

BFC Ground School

When community interest rises and enough interest is generated, the Brookings Flying Club will hold a "ground school" course, which overs all the knowledge you will need to take your FAA written private pilot test. It includes knowledge such as aerodynamics, weather, and more. All BFC ground school is instructed and supervise by an FAA-certified instructor, and the instruction hours count towards the requirements for your private pilot's license.

This course will teach you:

-basic aerodynamics

-aircraft systems

-flight instrumentation

-regulations

-airport procedures and operations

-weather

-aircraft performance

-enroute flight, navigation

-communication procedures

This course will be twice a week for approximately 6 weeks. The number of individual participants signed up/committed will dictate/determine the location and time frame of the course. The cost of the ground school course is dependent upon the type of materials chosen by the participant. Prices for course materials range from $250.00 to $400.00. The ground school instruction is $0-$200, depending on the instructor. The course will be taught by a local certified flight instructor (CFI) and/or licensed ground instructor.

Course fees do not include your FAA testing fee.
